For Those Considering Joining IBMA Kyokushin Kai Masuda Dojo
At IBMA Kyokushin Kai Masuda Dojo, children and adults of all ages can study karate and Budo according to their age, experience, physical condition, and individual goals.
No previous experience in karate or martial arts is required. Beginners can learn step by step, starting with the fundamentals.
You may be thinking:
“I would like to try karate.”
“I would like my child to learn Budo.”
“I want to exercise for my health and fitness.”
“I want to learn practical self-defense skills.”
“I want to earn a black belt.”
“I want to challenge myself in competition.”
“I want to study Budo more deeply.”
Everyone has a different reason for beginning karate.
At Masuda Dojo, we respect each student’s individual goals and strive to provide an environment in which everyone can continue learning karate and Budo at an appropriate pace.
For Those New to Karate
You do not need any special athletic background or exceptional physical fitness to begin karate.
At Masuda Dojo, beginners learn progressively, starting with basic stances, body movement, punches, kicks, and defensive techniques.
If you are concerned about whether you can keep up with the training, or have questions about your age or physical condition, we recommend first observing a class or taking a free trial lesson.
By seeing an actual class, you can experience the atmosphere of the dojo and learn more about our teaching methods.
For Parents Considering Karate for Their Children
At Masuda Dojo, our goal is not simply to teach karate techniques.
Through Budo training, we also place importance on helping children learn to:
- Develop courtesy and respect
- Listen attentively and concentrate
- Think and act independently
- Continue making steady efforts
- Respect others
- Develop self-control
Every child develops at a different pace.
Rather than focusing only on rapid technical improvement, we value steady and continuous learning while taking each child’s individual stage of development into consideration.
For Adults Beginning Karate
Karate is not only for children or young competitive athletes.
At Masuda Dojo, junior high school and high school students, university students, adults, and seniors can train according to their age, physical condition, and individual abilities.
Training is not limited to those who wish to compete.
Karate can also be studied for:
Health and fitness, physical conditioning, self-defense, lifelong Budo practice, and technical study.
Not every student is expected to participate in competitions.
We believe that continuing to practice Budo over the long term, according to your own goals and circumstances, is an important part of training at Masuda Dojo.
What You Will Learn at Masuda Dojo
At Masuda Dojo, the fundamentals, Kata, and Kumite of Kyokushin Karate form the foundation of our training.
At the same time, we believe it is important not merely to memorize the outward form of techniques, but also to understand how the body is used, the meaning of each technique, and the underlying principles — Riho — behind them.
Depending on age, experience, and level of training, students may also participate in partner training using protective equipment, as well as training and research intended to deepen their understanding of karate as a martial art.
The goal of Masuda Dojo is not simply to practice karate for the purpose of winning competitions.
Train the body, refine technique, cultivate the mind, and apply what you learn through Budo to your life.
We regard this as one of the essential purposes of karate and Budo training.

Apply Budo to Life
People begin karate for many different reasons.
To become stronger.
To improve health and fitness.
To develop greater confidence.
To have their child learn Budo.
To challenge themselves in competition.
Or simply to study Budo more deeply.
There is no need for everyone to begin for the same reason.
At Masuda Dojo, we believe that through the practice of karate and Budo, students can learn more about their own bodies and minds, expand their potential, and apply what they learn through training to their everyday lives.
Apply Budo to Life.
