Bringing Budo into Life.
Budo for Mature Adults
and Seniors
Not competing with youth, but deepening yourself.
There Is a Kind of Budo We Can Learn More Deeply as We Grow Older
Budo is sometimes thought of as something for people who are young,
physically strong, and capable of intense movement.
At IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI, however, we do not see it that way.
As we grow older, our bodies change.
Strength, flexibility, speed, and the ability to recover all change with age.
That is precisely why it becomes increasingly meaningful
to understand our own bodies,
to learn ways of moving that do not rely on strength alone,
and to study the principles behind technique.
At IBMA KYOKUSHIN KAI,
we regard Budo as
a path of learning that can continue throughout life.
Do Not Compete with Your Younger Self
As we grow older,
we may find ourselves thinking,
“I used to be able to move better,”
or
“I used to be stronger.”
But if we continue to measure ourselves only against who we were in the past,
we may limit the possibilities that Budo still offers us.
Not to regain our youth,
but to understand more deeply who we are now.
