IBMA Kyokushinkaikan
Characteristics of IBMA Kyokushinkai Masuda Dojo
At our dojo, students firmly acquire the fundamentals of traditional Kyokushin Karate while also studying a wide range of martial arts. We incorporate the methodology of Takushin Budo, which aims for a higher level of training and refinement through comprehensive martial research.
Furthermore, through the activities of IBMA (International Budo Human Development Association), we seek to elevate martial arts and combat sports beyond the mere acquisition of techniques, positioning them as a means of character formation.
“Open the body, elevate the mind.”
— This is the core of our martial way.
What Is IBMA Kyokushinkai Masuda Dojo?
IBMA Kyokushinkai Masuda Dojo is a dojo founded by Akira Masuda, who learned the fundamentals of Kyokushin Karate at the Kyokushinkaikan established by Sosai Masutatsu Oyama.
While valuing the basic techniques and kata of Kyokushin Karate, the dojo also practices Takushin Budo, a system independently compiled by Akira Masuda.
What Is Takushin Budo?
Takushin Budo is a new martial arts system born from Akira Masuda’s many years of experience and extensive research into various martial arts and combat sports.
In addition to techniques, kumite methods, and training methodologies, it incorporates a profound martial philosophy, emphasizing the growth of both mind and body.

Characteristics of Training
At our dojo, we conduct multifaceted training such as the following:
-
Instruction in the traditional basics and kata of Kyokushin Karate
-
Training in TS Protective Gear Karate, which permits strikes to the face while using protective equipment, balancing safety and realism
-
Practice not only of techniques for Kyokushin Karate kumite competition, but also applied training in traditional techniques (knife-hand strikes, backfists, counter techniques, throws, staff techniques, etc.)
-
Enhancement of practical combat ability through anti-weapon combat techniques and weapon arts training based on Takushin Budo
Instructional Philosophy
Masuda Dojo upholds the principle of “developing people through martial arts.”
The dojo is not merely a place to acquire techniques, but a place to train the mind and gain insights into how to live.
Mind, Technique, Body, and Etiquette
Through training that can be regarded as the origin of karate, the dojo does not limit itself to karate solely for competition. Instead, it pursues the refinement of highly precise techniques, the development of superior skills, and the path of respect for others and harmony between self and others.
Through this process, practitioners learn:
-
How to apply the mind
-
How to apply technique
-
How to apply the body
-
Etiquette
